Technical situation

Customer board design did not take into account the need for conformal coating and environmental ruggedization needs. Upon applying coating to the boards, customer discovered the boards exhibited migration of the chemistry into areas not targeted.

Solution

PRS Engineering team recommended a chemical blocking agent to alleviate the undesirable migration of the coating and a modification to the masking techniques. PRS ran first articles to prove the process and submitted them for approval.

Benefits

In 2010 PRS processed over 2300 printed circuit boards for this customer with 100% first time yield using the chemical blocking agent and masking techniques recommended.
